From England Iredell received letters from Margaret McCartney, who mentions Isaac Weld and Sir Nathaniel Duckenfield, and from Henry Eustace McCulloh, a large North Carolina landholder, who comments on North Carolina sentiment on the Revolution, the Mecklenburg affair, the Confiscation Act, etc. Other letters concern John Rutledge, the election of 1796, the Mease family of Philadelphia, etc. Most of the letters to Mrs. Hannah Iredell are from P. Lowther, who refers to the Page family of Rosewell. Correspondence of the son James, much of it legal, refers to Princeton College and deals with North Carolina affairs. Of interest is a letter from Laurence Sterne to George McCartney, 3 December 1767. Additional correspondents include: John Branch, J.C. Calhoun, Henry Clay, Oliver Ellsworth, R.Y. Hayne, Charles Lee, Henry Lee, John Marshall, A. Nielson, T. Pickering, Z. Taylor, and J. Tyler.
